STATEMENT
Alma Val is a contemporary textile artist based in Spain.
She studied Fine Arts at the Universitat Politècnica de València and holds a Master’s degree in Arts Management from IULM University in Rome. She has worked with galleries and institutions including Gagosian (Rome and London), Peggy Guggenheim Collection Museum (Venice), MACRO (Rome), and Galería Alarcón Criado (Seville). Her work has been exhibited in Spain, the United States, and Italy.
Her practice examines the tension between form and emptiness, presence and absence, through textile and other techniques such as drawing, painting, and natural dyes. The mountain recurs as an ancestral and universal figure, operating simultaneously as image and structure, a site of projection, silence, and connection.
Alma approaches textile not as craft, but as a conceptual language in which stitching becomes drawing and time is inscribed within the material. Her work is informed by an engagement with ancient cultures, minimalism, and the relationship between humans and nature.
Alma Val es una artista textil contemporánea que vive en España.
Estudió Bellas Artes en la Universitat Politècnica de València y posteriormente un Máster en Arts Management por la IULM University de Roma. Ha colaborado con galerías e instituciones como Gagosian (Roma y Londres), el Museo Peggy Guggenheim Collection (Venecia), MACRO (Roma) y la Galería Alarcón Criado (Sevilla). Su obra se ha expuesto en España, Estados Unidos e Italia.
Su práctica explora la tensión entre forma y vacío, presencia y ausencia, a través textil y otras técnicas como el dibujo, la pintura y los tintes naturales. La montaña se repite como figura ancestral y universal, operando simultáneamente como imagen y como espacio de proyección, silencio y conexión.
Alma aborda el textil no como una artesanía, sino como un lenguaje conceptual en el que la hilo se convierte en dibujo y el tiempo se inscribe en el material. Su obra se inspira en la interacción con las culturas antiguas, el minimalismo y la relación entre el ser humano y la naturaleza.
